Women’s Wilderness Adventure Fall Retreat at Wilderness Canoe Base
Nestled within one of the world’s largest International Dark Sky Sanctuaries, the Women’s Wilderness Adventure Fall Retreat at Wilderness Canoe Base was a magical experience for 35 women. Three adventurous participants arrived early to embark on a canoe trip, camping in the pristine Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). The fall colors of the Boreal Forest provided a stunning backdrop.
Throughout the retreat, participants enjoyed day trip paddles into the BWCAW, nature hikes, a variety of crafting opportunities, and the delightful tradition of cooking coffee break cake over the flames. The air was filled with laughter and fellowship as the women bonded over table conversations as we shared delicious meals. Evenings were particularly special, with candle-lit prayer services held in a beautiful outdoor chapel. The theme, “The lights shine in the darkness…and the darkness is Awesome!” resonated deeply with everyone.
Nightly presentations by staff from the Chick Wauk Museum added an educational element to the retreat. Attendees learned about the Northern Lights, constellations, and the importance of preserving dark skies. Campfires became a hub of activity, with singing, and storytelling. The haunting calls of loons and the breathtaking sight of stars from the bridge created unforgettable memories, despite some cloudy nights.
The retreat concluded with a sending worship service, leaving everyone inspired and rejuvenated. The sense of community and connection was palpable, and many participants are already planning to join next year’s retreat. If you missed out this time, don’t worry—there’s always next year to experience the wonder of the Women’s Wilderness Adventure Fall Retreat at Wilderness Canoe Base.
