Wilderness Canoe Base Facilities

Wilderness Canoe Base offers a complete retreat from the speed and chaos of everyday life. Here you will experience beauty, stillness, and creation…stretching you into new growth and community with others.

Wilderness hosts a variety of different groups: men, women, families, friends, organizations, churches, schools, etc., all are provided with a place to gather, cabins for sleeping, excursion guides and meals for the duration of their stay–delicious food and homemade bread served in Pinecliff Lodge.

While the best retreating time at Wilderness is late in the crisp spring or early in the cool fall, you may opt for a winter retreat which, with the right clothing, can be the most rewarding season here.

Wilderness cabins vary between housing 2-30 people.

Our cabins are “bunkhouse style,” meaning that most cabins sleep multiple folks in each room. You can expect bunk beds or single beds in most cabins. At Wilderness, we use outhouses for bathrooms. In the summer months, bathing happens at our sauna. In the winter months, showers are available in Pinecliff Lodge. Guests must be able to ambulate rocky terrain to get between buildings, outhouses, and main gathering areas.

Pinecliff, our main lodge, is available for guests to eat home-cooked meals, gather around the fireplace on our cozy couches, or spread out at large tables for meeting or crafting. Trailshack, our heated main outfitting building, is available to borrow seasonally appropriate gear to enjoy the outdoors. In the fall, you will find paddles and lifejackets, while in the winter you will find snowshoes and skis. This can also be set up as an additional gathering space as needed.

Our open-air chapel is also available year round for gathering for worship or other activities.

Wilderness staff are available to supplement your own program and activities by guiding outdoor activities such as paddles or skis on Seagull Lake, nature hikes around the islands, or lifeguarding swimming. Our retreat coordinator will work with you to create a schedule that suits your needs.
