Making a Splash at Beach Bash
It was another amazing day here at Camp Wapo! We began our Thursday with some delicious breakfast sandwiches. This gave us the energy we needed to jump around in the chapel singing worship songs. We sang “Every Move I Make” again and the enthusiasm was infectious! Our skit introduced us to our theme of the day which is “Give Thanks Always.”
For bible study we read the story of Elijah and the widow. We talked about how sometimes it is difficult to trust God to provide for us. But we learned it is important to give thanks to God in all circumstances!
During field games today we played Medic and Wapo Quaffle. Medic is a dodgeball game that we played with four teams. Each team has one player who is a “medic” and has the power to revive their teammates by tapping them. Wapo Quaffle is a game loosely inspired by Quidditch from Harry Potter. Teams throw frisbees and gator balls to get points. They even hop onto noodle “brooms” to try and catch the counselor playing as the “golden snitch.”
After lunch, we had a beach bash for the first part of the afternoon. Campers enjoyed making their tie dye, getting their faces painted, playing tug-of-war, swimming, building sandcastles, and playing yard games down at the beach. We certainly made a splash! Then, for the second half of free time campers enjoyed all the classic activities like gaga, swimming, and braceleting, as well as participating in a basketball tournament! Later on, the winning team got to play the Wapo All Star team of counselors.
We had a barn-dance-themed banquet for dinner tonight. It’s ALWAYS fun to get dressed up for this special meal! We ate some delicious chicken kiev, mashed potatoes with gravy, and corn. After that, it was time for the Wapo County Fair! We enjoyed picking from fun stations like hair braiding, karaoke, shaving cream hair, caricatures, nail painting, and hair washing.
Following our normal outdoor campfire, we had a specialty worship tonight. We gathered on the grass to watch a shadow show of bible stories spanning from creation through Jesus’ life. It’s a great way to wrap up our night before our final devos with our cabins. We’ve truly had such a great week growing in faith together. We’re looking forward to one last day before we go back home.
